President & CEO
Scott has more than 25 years of executive management and leadership experience in the medical device industry with Boston Scientific, Orthofix Orthopedics, and BarrX Medical. Most recently, Scott was the President and CEO of Avantis Medical Systems, where he led the company through their Series C financing and two successful bridge financings. He oversaw the securing of Medicare reimbursement; the completion and publication of the largest tandem designed, randomized trial in medical device history; and the development of a next-generation imaging system for global, full-market release. Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Management from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and has completed the Executive Management Program of both Columbia University and Babson College.
Scott has more than 20 years of finance experience in various senior finance leadership and management roles with Nanometrics Incorporated, ZOLL Medical Corporation, and VNUS Medical Technologies, among others. Scott’s broad background in finance and operations includes managing finance and accounting, manufacturing operations, sales operations, customer service, IT and human resources. In addition, he has led numerous rounds of debt and equity financings, as well as acquisitions and related integrations. Scott is a former audit manager of Arthur Andersen LLP. He is a CPA and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California.
VP of Sales
Anthony has more than 24 years of diverse executive management, leadership, and sales experience in the medical device industry, with companies such as Steris, Volcano, and Inamed Aesthetics (now Allergan/Pfizer), manufacturer of breast implants and tissue expanders, as well as an early stage venture based start-up Sanarus Medical, a manufacturer of cryo-therapy for breast disease. Anthony most recently served as Area Vice President of Sales and Senior Director of U.S. Sales at Invuity, Inc, where he led the company’s effort to build a national sales organization of over 80 direct sales representatives and 40 distribution partners. He also assisted in Series D and E financing, which led to a successful initial public offering on the NASDAQ in June 2015. Anthony has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance from Bryant University.
VP of Operations
Tony has more than 15 years of medical device and aerospace experience with a focus on transitioning innovative technologies through late-stage development into full scale manufacturing. He most recently held the position of Sr. Director of Manufacturing and Engineering at Avantis Medical Systems, where he was responsible for advancing operations during the course of clinical studies and into full commercialization and through the eventual transition to off-shore manufacturing. Prior to joining Avantis, Tony spent eight years in varying leadership roles with Align Technology in the product development and manufacturing groups and was instrumental in building Align’s unique, world-class manufacturing operation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon.
Senior Director, Human Resources
Gwen brings more than 20 years of experience in human resources in the medical device industry with proven success in developing and implementing strategic direction for the HR function and building strong company cultures. Before joining AirXpanders, she was the Director of Human Resources for Invuity, Inc. where she developed and managed the human resources strategy and partnered with sales leadership in support of rapid commercial growth and expansion. Prior to Invuity, Gwen held senior level human resources positions with Abcam, PEAK Surgical, and Arthro Care Corporation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations with a concentration in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University.
Senior Director, Clinical Affairs
Kathy has more than 20 years of experience in hospital clinical, quality, and risk management and five years in clinical research, and has extensive experience in medical quality analysis. Prior to joining AirXpanders as the Director of Clinical Affairs in 2010, she held a number of management positions, performed audits for FDA submissions, and served as the liaison to hospital lawyers for medical legal cases at John Muir Medical Center. Kathy has initiated and run clinical trial sites, both nationally and internationally in Europe and South America. She has experience in several start up medical device companies such as Zeltiq Aesthetics and Revascular Therapeutics. Kathy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Boston University.
Senior Director, Global Marketing
Jennie brings more than 15 years of experience in healthcare marketing and public relations. Prior to joining AirXpanders, Jennie held a number of leadership roles in marketing and public affairs at Abbott Vascular. In her most recent role at Abbott, she led global branding and positioning efforts for Absorb, the world’s first fully bioresorbable coronary scaffold. Jennie has extensive experience in medical device marketing targeting both healthcare professionals and consumers. She began her career in women’s reproductive health and worked extensively with patient advocacy groups. Jennie received her Masters of Health Sciences degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Pomona College.
Senior Director, Research & Development
Mark has extensive leadership experience in research and development with a focus on the execution of innovative early stage technologies. He has held positions as a Research Engineer/Scientist for Cytyc Surgical Products and Director of Mechanical Systems Design for United Technologies, where he and his teams worked on and delivered multiple advanced technology products. Mark has more than 15 US and international patents and has published more than 12 technical papers and articles. Mark received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from University of Michigan and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, where he completed the Biodesign Innovation Sequence.
Director, Quality Assurance
Vee has more than 20 years of experience in Quality, Regulatory, and R&D in the medical device industry. He has worked for small start-ups to large Fortune 500 companies focusing on simplifying Quality systems and leading a culture of Quality. He has held positions as Associate Director of QA/RA (Cardica), Quality Manager/Leader (Incumedx, TE Connectivity, BD), Senior Quality Engineer (BD), and R&D Engineer (BD) leading and supporting all aspects of product release from initial conception to post market release in US and international markets. Vee has a passion for people, learning, streamlining processes, leadership and management. Vee received his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from Stevens Institute of Technology and Master of Business Administration from Cal State University in San Marcos.
Director, Regulatory Affairs
Belinda brings more than 20 years of Regulatory experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining AirXpanders, Belinda held a senior management role with DFine, Inc. where she led various successful domestic and international company growth efforts and supported project development teams until its acquisition. Throughout her career, she has held numerous Regulatory positions with companies such as DFine, Medtronic, Kyphon, Stryker and a number of other medical device companies. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from San Jose State University.
Business Director, Asia Pacific
Kirsty joined AirXpanders in early 2015 to lead the company’s first global commercial efforts in Australia. Kirsty brings over 15 years of experience in the medical device industry across marketing, sales and finance. Prior to joining AirXpanders, she spent 13 years at Johnson & Johnson MD&D where she gained substantial experience commercialising new technologies. In her most recent role, Kirsty was responsible for marketing for the Mentor business unit, where she led the launch of the first human tissue-based dermal matrix for breast reconstruction into the Australian market. Kirsty has an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in International Business from St Louis University.
